The art of animation is more accessible to artists today, presented in many forms from classical, frame by frame cell animation to stop motion and 3D animation. It may have come a long way from its origins, but much of the concepts behind moving images, as well as developing the characters and stories which they portray haven’t changed at all.
There are too many continuing accounts of the unexplained to ignore them all. This is one of my all time favourites. The police officers are a large factor in assessing its authenticity to some, but they can also be argued as being ‘stooges’, the oldest tools in trickery.
Many mysteries can be explained scientifically and others can even be replicated, as in this explanation of the Marfa Lights. Still, some mysteries continue to evade the most hardened skeptic’s ability to comprehend their origin or process on a rational level.
Much of my artwork you see at DC may involve illusion, but is not considered magic, since their creative process is apparent in most cases, ie. digital manipulation, obvious optical devices, etc. However, their relation to magic is closer than you may think.
While digital tools are allowing ever increased possibilities for creative expression, they are also increasingly being used in applications with more commercial intentions. From touching up models to digitally freshening food, these effects are used as subtle devices designed to (often subconsciously) appeal to certain audiences and tastes.
We thought we would explore this idea by not only demonstrating a digital transformation, but also dismissing subtlety altogether and transforming a masculine black man into a sexy blonde girl. The process reveals how the entire facial structure was derived solely from that of the original male source model.
